Made in Maine- the way Christmas should be

Sunday, December 11th, 2011

Maine is a state that is chock full of uber talented folks dreaming up and bringing to life a wealth of  high quality, unique, handcrafted creations.

Simply meandering along Route 1 will expose you to numerous galleries, wineries, breweries, artisan workshops, craft co-ops, photographers – you name it. And there’s  a lot more to Maine than just what is along Route 1!

If you would like to see just how many talented folks are out there roaming around the state, just take a look at the following websites:

Being a crafter/creator/artist myself  (and member of the United Maine Craftsmen) I have many other Maine artists that I admire and have a great appreciation for the time and effort they  put into their creations- whether it is food, jewelry, photography, decor…

So, I just thought I would offer up a few of my personal favorites that just might help you with your gift list this year. While I am not affiliated with any of these businesses,I  have met many of the owners in person and can tell you that they are all wonderful, talented folks!

Once upon a time, there was a little island off the coast of Maine called Isle au Haut where two people, named Kate & Steve, made the best chocolates EVER! Well, lucky for us, they are still there and are doing what they do best, making chocolates that are so yummy I have trouble finding the words to describe. Many of our guests have had their romantic stay at Clark Point Inn enhanced with these bits of Heaven. We hope that when you visit us you'll want us to order some for you too! Not just the chocolates, but the bark and the sipping chocolate and the froglets and the... They are life changing!

Hi everyone! It’s a beautiful, sunny day here is Southwest Harbor. We are finishing up last minute (very last minute!) projects and getting ready for the busy summer months.  Right now Mark is outside giving the front porch a fresh coat of paint.  Mark is  much more  of a precise painter than I, so I have no doubt it will turn out great!

So many guests enjoy breakfast on the porch and it’s obvious why, the smell of the ocean air is so invigorating. It’s always great to hear the activities folks are lining up for the day. Only problem is, there’s so much to do in the area that it’s hard to decide what to start with. Head out for a day of sea kayaking or take the Baker Island Cruise?  Relax on Sand Beach or hike Beech Mountain? Maybe rent a bicycle and hit the Carriage Roads. A great way to end the day is by catching the romantic sunset cruise on the Margaret Todd or a sunset flight of Acadia.

Of course, some folks just like to spend the afternoon hours relaxing here at the Inn and socializing with their fellow guests. Each weekend, this summer, guests will enjoy a  fondue & wine afternoon social. After getting checked in , many guests just like a short time to gather their thoughts and take in their surroundings. Enjoy a sweet or savory fondue , a complimenting glass of wine, relax in the front porch rockers and decide where to head for dinner. We have many great dinner suggestions, by the way, and if it’s lobster you’re looking for, well, Beal’s Lobster Pier is just a 5 minute walk down the street! Can’t wait to see you  all this summer!

It’s Officially Summer in Maine!

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful memorial Day this past weekend! Memorial Day weekend signifies that the summer season is officially underway. I love seeing the lobster steamers fired up at Trenton bridge Lobster Pound! The lilac tree next door is blooming beautifully and smells so wonderful. :)
Our guests arriving yesterday afternoon, couldn’t wait to get inside to tell us about the 2 deer in the backyard munching on the hostas!
It’s going to be a wonderful summer here at the Inn and we do hope you’ll pay us a visit. Be sure to check out our “Packages” page for the scoop on our INN to INN package with the White Cedar Inn in Freeport, Maine!
Heading into the kitchen to bake up some triple Chocolate Chunk Brownies. Probably going to make a batch of maple cream chocolates (my favorite!) too and then head outside to get some sunshine and check on the herbs and tomato plants. Have a great day, everyone!
