                   ~Acadia National Park ~

    Acadia is the premier national park east of the Mississippi. For centuries, people have been drawn to the rugged yet romantic coast of Maine. Awed by its beauty and diversity,early 20th century visionaries donated the land that was to become Acadia National Park.

    Perhaps the most prominent and generous of the park land donors was the late John D. Rockefeller Jr., who built some 57 miles of beautiful carriage roads. Today these historic roads are used by visitors who tour the island by horseback,bicycle,walking,skiing and,of course, by carriage.

    Acadia posesses more than 120 miles of trails and the famous 27-mile Park Loop Road, which leads directly to the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the tallest peak on the U.S. east coast. The mountain reaches high above the town of Bar Harbor, allowing magnificent views of the Porcupine Islands and Frenchman Bay.
